Hi Everyone! Welcome! i chose Hollister Ca because i was born and raised there! Whenever people hear about Hollister CA they think of the clothing store, so i created this webpage so people know what Hollister is really about! Enjoy!
Although Hollister is a very small town and does not have a lot of core manufacturers, we are known for our Tomatoes. F and S farms is a private tomato company established in 1973. Recently Dominos Pizza shot their commercial at F and S farms which was, as you may imagine, a very exciting time for Hollister. Hollister also has the San Benito County foods Tomato canning factory in the center of our down town. This gives a lot of employment to residents of Hollister during the summer time.

Hollister is well known for the Pinnacles National Monument. "The Pinnacles is of an ancient volcano formed approximately 23 million years ago. The Pinnacles volcano was a result of the same plate subduction occurring today off the California coast." The San Andreas Fault actually split the monument in two causing the other half to be all the way in Lancaster which is 195 miles away. The Pinnacles attracts many tourists, hikers, naturalists, and really anyone who is into seeing something beautiful. You are able to camp, hike on the many trails, and just look at the many wildlife. Hollister was first found in 1868 by the Mutson Indians, and established by William Hollister, in which the town was named after. When my family first moved to Hollister in 1985 it was mostly populated with white people, and had very little population. Now Hollister consists "10,164 (29.1%) White, 341 (1.0%) African American, 617 (1.8%) Native American, 929 (2.7%) Asian, 63 (0.2%) Pacific Islander, 10,437 (29.9%) from other races, and 1,780 (5.1%) from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 22,965 persons (65.7%)." Therefore it has significantly changed over the years. Many people migrate to Hollister from the bay area to get out of the populated areas and go to a small town more laid-back and more relaxing. Hollister is only located 15 minutes from the start of the bay area, and about 2 hours from San Francisco. It is a perfect town to raise your family.
Hollister is also known for the Biker Rally that the town holds every 4th of July. As you could see from this picture it gets crazy, but very fun. It brings a lot of activity to the town, and many tourists. They just cancelled this fun rally 2 years ago, but bikers still continue to come.credit:http://image.hotbikeweb.com/f/10774003/0808_hbkp_01_z+Northern_California_Biker_Independence_Rally+Hollister.jpg
In this picture it shows how much the sidewalk has changed over the years due to the creep. Many of us do not think that it is causing a lot of damage until you actually investigate it. In my high School, they wanted to build more classrooms, however in order to do so, they had to build it .5 miles away from the old campus because they weren't able to build a school on the Calaveras Fault.
When you walk down the streets of Hollister CA this is what you will see, bends in sidewalks, crooked sidewalks, crakes in streets, this is all due to the Seismic Creep. Even though it is just a "creep" it has caused much damaged to the town as seen in this picture. credit: http://www.smate.wwu.edu/teched/geology/eq-creep.html
When a person thinks of Hollister CA they think of the beach, surfing, the ocean. Hollister Ca is completely different than that of the store. Hollister is an agriculture town with a population of almost 36000 people. When someone looks down at Hollister from a plane you are most likely to see fields and fields and many rolling hills.Hollister is also known to many geologists because "it portrays one of the best examples of aseismic creep anywhere in the world." Hollister lies directly on the Calaveras fault which runs on the San Andreas fault. Therefore Hollister is often known for the "Earthquake capitol of the World"http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hollister,_California
