California

Hollister is located in the middle of the state of California. California is known for its amazing weather/climate, for earthquakes, and populated(because who doesn't want to live in California right?)
Earthquakes-The San Andreas Fault runs down the middle of the state, Hollister being one of the cities it runs through, making it runner up to the earthquake capitol.
Weather/climate-The weather in California is mild winters and perfect to hot summers.  Northern California being a little cooler than Southern, everywhere in California is a great place to live, with really no bad climate conditions. The weather is what attracts so many people to the beautiful state of California. Hollister's climate is mild winters with an average rainfall, and warm to hot summers.

Population-Many people migrate to California for many reasons. The weather is nice, its beautiful scenery, its where the entertainment is made, and its fun! Whatever the reason, the population increases each year making it the most populated state(census.gov) Like California, Hollister has grown drastically. When i was born in 1990 it was all farm land, no target, no chained restaurants, and not a lot of people. Now there is target, chain restaurants, more housing, and the population has increased 60%(clrsearch.com)

The Empty Interior

The Pinnacles is located just south of Hollister and is a national monument that was once part of a volcano that was split by the San Andreas fault over 20 million years ago. It is about 26000 acres, and is now very touristy and often used for people to bird watch, animal watch, learn about nature and geology, rock climb, and even to just go for peace and quiet.

Great Plains and Prairies

Like the Praries Holllister is flat in some places, for example where we grow all of our crops, however much of Hollister consists of rolling hills. Unlike the Great Plains and Prairies Hollister does not have severe weather conditions. Since it is a lot of farmland and irrigation, the weather has to be able to sustain the different crops year round.  Hollister gets an average amount of rain per year, and has average temperatures the rest of the year, with the exception of extremely hot days.
So if it only rains an average amount each year how does Hollister supply more than 40 crops??
Hollister gets its water from San Benito County water district which works with the CVP or central valley project. The water is brought from way up Northern California through the aqueduct and delivered into the closest reservoir which is the San Luis Reservoir from there the water is pumped through a 5 mile tunnel and delivered to Casa de Fruita which is just outside of Hollister.
